THINGS FALL APART SO BETTER THINGS CAN COME TOGETHER

HEY THERE!

IT'S TYRA!

The last you heard from me, it was 2010 and I was having a blast with our girls in the SIC program! We went on trips, learned a lot about leadership, culture, and the true essence of being a girl. We overcame obstacles, trials and tribulations. There were tears, laughs, sweat, sleep, headaches, heartaches and smiles.  To say the least, I, as well as the girls, enjoyed their experience. And then, life happened.

Sometimes, life sends us in an unexpected direction. We are on our path and somehow, get thrown off, take a detour or are kidnapped and taken to a brand new place. With that said, I had to put Saving Innocent Children on hiatus. As much as the girls were disappointed, I too was extremely disappointed. However, I am proud to announce that we are back in action!

S.I.C. Inc will be taking Los Angeles by storm, starting with our school tours! We will go into various high schools and work with students on campus to help them achieve academic success. We will also relaunch our Summer Mentorship Program for Girls which is still, free for all girls that participate! We already have 2 members of our incoming class of 2013! How exciting is that!

To my lovely ladies that started with me in 2010, I want to apologize for discontinuing the program and not properly communicating with you all about the program. I owe you a lot. It is you ladies that brought the vision and the spirit of SIC to life and due to your efforts, SIC will love on.

Please go and take a look at the dynamic divas that started to journey from the beginning. Simply click on our "Past Participant" page and check them out! They made SIC history as the very first class of our Summer Mentorship Program and they are the very reason SIC lives on today! To them, we owe it all!

I look forward to you all joining us in the near future!

With Love,
Tyra "xoxo"

FUNDRAISING and COMMUNITY SERVICE (2010 Pilot Program)

For the last few weeks, our girls have been fundraising a lot!!! They have done candy sales, yard sales, they have recycled and so much more. They have been trying to raise funds for their trip to Sea World in San Diego! Please take a look at what's been going on in the world of S.I.C. (They have also worked with some small children during their fundraisers as well).

They manage to raise close to $670.00 to go towards their fundraiser. This friday, the girls will be embarking on a new journey. None of them have ever been to Sea World so this should be an exciting trip for them!

DAY 5. Sisterhood and Breaking Stereotypes (2010 Pilot Program)

Today the girls really had a chance to explore sisterhood. Not only did they bond as a group, they even formed some "cliques" and performed skits, over-exaggerating the stereotypes of each clique. While embracing the idea of sisterhood with the other ladies in the program, they also had to show how to overcome the stereotypes. Check out the pics below:

AKAPELA JONZ-Special Guest Performer (2010 Pilot Program)

Akapela Jonz, née Lorenzo Gordon, has always sought to do what hasn’t
been done and constantly be unique in his execution. A fan of hip-hop
since his formative years, Jonz can go from nostalgically speaking
about LL Cool J -- being the artist that inspired him to become an
artist -- to waxing philosophically about the perils of hip-hop
becoming a lost art in the white noise of today’s radio. By taking
hip-hop back to a more musical standpoint with blends of funk, rock,
jazz and hip-hop, the aim of this artist is to find a cohesive balance
between what hasn’t been done and what is familiar. Thus making the
music palatable for the listener but on edge enough to make them take
notice and actually listen to the story behind the lyrics. Akapela’s
music reflects his understanding of hip-hop as not only being an
attractive art form but also being a relatable meeting ground for
different genres of music. One to always keep his fans guessing; Jonz
challenges people musically and socially by blurring the lines of
content, music choice, production and even style by grabbing listeners
by the metaphorical collar and upsetting the balance of the hip-hop
establishment.
