PAST PARTICIPANTS

Natalie

Natalie is a hardworking and caring 16-year old young lady. She loves to perform. She began dancing at a very young age and was also a member of a drill team in the 4th and 5th grade. Being apart of the drill team made her very proud because her school won the 2nd place award during competition. Later in high school, she participated in the high school musical production “The Lion King,” where she learned authentic African dances and rhythms while learning to sing in Zulu, Hebrew and Swahili. As you can see, she is quite the performer. Even though she is a performer, she feels that she lacks a certain level of self-confidence. Her hope is that the S.I.C. program will help her find more self-confidence and self-love. She also hopes to gain knowledge of how to uplift her family and also, have tons of fun!

Claudia
Claudia is only the young tender age of 13. She has many hobbies including singing and drawing. She joined the S.I.C. program in hopes to discover more about herself. Her goals in life are to become a professional singer and artist. She plans to take the lessons from this program and apply them to her everyday life, thus making her into a leader and positive role model for her younger siblings.



Tyana

Tyana is a very successful young lady for the age of 11 (making her the programs youngest member). She not only skipped a grade in school but she recently received a grade point average of a 3.94. Her favorite subject is science. One of her life goals is to work in forensics. She wants to attend Howard University once she graduates from high school. Tyana also enjoys performing. So far, she has been able to star in several plays. During this program Tyana wish to develop leadership skills so that she can be a positive role model to her friends.

Angie


Jairy

Jairy is a very courageous, loud and enthusiastic young lady who loves to try new things. She joined the S.I.C. program because she wanted to try something new for the summer and not sit around being bored sitting at home. (LOL) During this program she plans to learn how to overcome her obstacles in life. Jairy loves to discover new things about the human body and has an interest in anatomy. Once she graduates from high school and attends college, she wants to be a FBI agent that investigates criminal murder cases. Even though Jairy is only 16 years of age, she would like to accomplish so much that when she looks back on her life, she could say that she became an amazing woman.


Nidia

Nidia is a girl of many hobbies. Recently she has discovered her love for acting and performing. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her parents and hopes to go to college. Her dream is to attend USC and major in Medical Science and a minor in theater arts. She hopes that one day she can be a mentor to young girls. Through S.I.C. she hope to learn many leadership skills to help others as well as herself.

Jada

Jada is a young girl that loves to draw. At age 12, she is one of the S.I.C.’s program youngest members. Through the S.I.C. program she plans to learn and retain many life lessons. Those lessons involve academics, Culture, Holistic living and leadership. She also enjoys the fact that she can meet new people and form new friendships. For Jada, this program is a journey. With the help of her new 5 camp counselors, she feels that she will be able to find outlets of self-expression. She is very excited about this program and can’t wait to see what else it will bring.

Un-Ju

Un-ju is a 17 year old that has many dreams for her future. She loves to participate in various forms of entertainment such as singing, acting, modeling, drawing and dancing. Silver, which is the English translation of her Korean name Un-Ju, loves her naturally curly hair is often compared to that of an African-American woman’s hair. She joined the S.I.C. program seeking an opportunity to better all aspects of her life. She has already fallen in love with the program and can’t wait to see what else is in store for the program.

Maira


Aida

Aida is a 16-year old girl and the oldest of three girls. She has a passion for both her academic and dancing careers. During her junior year at West Adams Prep High School, she was ranked 2nd in a class of 800. She was able to keep her ranking while vigorously working on the school musical production for the last 3.5 months of school. She not only excelled at being dance captain of the cast but she was also thrown into a lead vocal role. This young lady has been pushed by all the individuals around her to strive to do more for her-self. She enrolled into the S.I.C. program in hopes to become a well-rounded individual and learn to overcome obstacles in her life. The program offers her a home filled with other girls who can relate to her and be there to listen to her. This young lady is ready to take on whatever this program and life has to offer her.


Leilani


Iris

Iris is a very loving person. Fro being 17 years old, she has been through a lot but manages to remain cheerful. She has had amazing opportunities to perform in school productions such as “The Oddessy” and “The Lion King. ” she loves to talk and make new friends everyday. One of her life’s goals is to open a camp for children with disabilities. Also, she would also love to do some background singing for artist such as Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blidge and her absolute favorite artist Yolanda Adams. As much as she loves to sing, she loves to dance even more and has been dancing for the last 5 years. Iris joined the S.I.C. program to learn more about who she is as an individual as well as learning about others. She hopes this experience will remain with her always. She knows that this chapter in her life will be very rewarding and will only help prepare her for college in the fall.
